One yard in Batley. Now four sites across West Yorkshire.

Who we are

Martin and Charlotte set up MB Storage in Batley in 2020. They'd spotted a gap in the local market: plenty of places would rent you a container, but far fewer could offer you a brand-new one, standing in a yard that was clean, tidy and properly looked after. That's what they built, starting with a single yard of 60 containers.

The timing could have been better. The business grew up through the chaos of Covid - and came out of it stronger, because storage turned out to be exactly what people needed while everything else was uncertain: houses that wouldn't complete, businesses with nowhere to put stock, families squeezed into too little space.

In 2023, Martin's son James set up JB Storage Solutions in Brighouse, a sister company run on the same lines. It found its feet quickly and now holds a 5.0 rating from more than 50 Google reviews.

When you ring, you're speaking to the family who own the yards - not a call centre, and not a national chain that's never set foot in Batley.

How we got to four sites

Growth came quickly after Brighouse. Martin and Charlotte took on the yard next door in Batley, adding warehouse units, open yard space and more containers to the original site.

In 2025 the family took on a yard in Liversedge - garage units, brand-new containers, and a 2,500 sq ft warehouse with office space alongside.

And in 2026 came the newest site, in Stourton, Leeds: a prominent yard on Pontefract Road with thousands of cars passing it every day, and less than five minutes from the M1 and M621.

Four sites in six years, and the same two questions behind every one of them - is it secure, and would we be happy leaving our own things in it?

These days Martin and Charlotte have taken a step back - you're more likely to find them in the garden, or somewhere at sea on a cruise, than at the gate. MB Storage is now run day to day by their son James and his partner Megan, alongside JB Storage in Brighouse. Same family, same yards, same way of doing things.

Why containers

A container isn't a room down a corridor. You drive right up to the doors, load at ground level, and you're not queueing for a lift or booking a loading bay. Everything is sealed, weatherproof steel, so your things stay dry. You get your own padlock, gates that open from your phone, and access whenever you actually need it - not just when an office happens to be open.
